East Java is a province in the eastern part of Java Island , Indonesia . The capital is Surabaya. Its area is 47,922 km ², and a population of 37,070,731 inhabitants ( 2005 ). East Java has the largest area among the six provinces in Java, and has the largest population in Indonesia after West Java .
